So, we bought the hubby his first mac today. He is really excited, and he has been carrying it around the house like a new toy all night.

It was really his decision to change from the dell too. Now that he will be starting school in a few weeks, we realized that the dinosaur dell at home that was meant for gaming should be used that way.

It is such a rush to buy a new computer. We haven’t gotten a new one for several years (no need with the Macs we have), but I really did think that we needed to start making the move towards the intel processors.

Maybe there will be another beauty in my future as well.

Because I am always drooling at all the new technology that I can’t afford, I thought that I would give myself one place to lay it all out.

24 inch iMac – apparently there are rumors of a brushed steel iMac with a larger screen on the way.

Leopard – Can’t wait for it to come out. And, I am eager to hear about what will be happening next with the operating system.

A new laptop of some variety – but, again, I will wait. I am still hopeful that someday they will come out with a tablet.

iPhone – This is a way in the future kind of thing. I am fascinated by the integrated screen thingy it does. Check out the commercial to see what I mean.

This is just a pipe dream, I know. I love my existing computers and have no plans for a new toy anytime soon, but a girl can dream, can’t she!

I just recently got home from a conference about computers and writing, where I learned about a new music tracking program/website call lastfm. I will admit that initially I wasn’t totally sold. I really just started trying to follow facebook. So, this extra program seemed like too much work to just track my music.

However, then I found shelfari! It is a very cool website that lets you track your reading and share your reading interests with your friends. For a while, I have wanted to keep better track of the books that I am reading, and I would really like to keep track of the books that I want to get and those that I have already purchased with the intention of reading someday. This website lets you do all this. And, it also lets you make friends with other people that are reading stuff just like you are.

So, check it out. Maybe, lastfm will be this much fun too!

I just attended a very interesting lecture about distance learning and teaching, and it was so cool to hear this guy talk about some of the concepts that I already hold dear. Most significantly, he explained that if we don’t try to be competitive with any of the new media out there, then we, as teachers, are going to become obsolete. Students will go elsewhere for information.

He made a really interesting comparison with The Tipping Point, which I swear I have at home on the shelf to read. I am really interested to see my own version of the match-up here! I am sure that I will report back soon.
