About Me

So, after three years and 100 blog posts, I have decided I needed an About Me page. So, here is what you need to know about me.
Where I live:
I live just outside Manhattan…..Kansas, that is. My town is so tiny that they don’t even deliver our mail, so you probably have never heard of it. I love our house, but I know that we will be moving in May of 2009. Where is still a little up in the air.
What I do for work:
I teach technical writing at the university in town. This is the fourth school I have taught at in the last eight years. My husband (aka “the boy”) is in the military, so we move around quite a bit. I love what I do, even though the grading practically kills me every semester!
Right now, I am teaching written communication for engineers and a writing for the workplace class. I love my students. They write me these amazingly technical and hugely complex reports every semester. They satisfy my analytical quest for information that I don’t really need. If you ever have a conversation with me, no doubt I will say “I had a student write me a report on that….” at least once. My friends call me a sponge, so I love to suck up everything they write about, except maybe car engines. For some reason, I can’t absorb the way an engine works.
What I like to do for fun:
As you might be able to tell from all I have posted here, I love to sew. I am completely self-taught, and that shows on some projects more than others. I don’t really like patterns and use what other people have done as ideas for my own stuff.
I read a ton of blogs everyday, and I gain so much information from the others in the online crafting community. I hope to someday open an etsy shop of my own, but that would require more time to craft than I have right now. But, who knows what will happen in the future. I also have a dream to someday open the ultimate crafting store. It would be an amazing place!
In addition to sewing, I am a closet scrapbooker and jewelry maker. And, I would love to learn how to make lampwork beads.
I also love to spend time with my family, friends, and our many, many animals.
