my decorating plans for next year…
Dec 6th, 2008 by Sandy
I know it might seem silly to have plans already for what you want to do next year when Christmas isn’t even here yet, but I have seen so many wonderful things out there that people are doing to decorate their homes. I want to make it all, but I doubt that I am going to have time this year (particularly because with our crazy work schedule we haven’t even gotten things up this year yet!). So, I want to capture these ideas somewhere so I won’t forget, and maybe you will get some ideas too!
Garland
Lots of people have been talking about different types of garland lately.
Ali Edwards has an awesome felt garland weekend creative going on this week. She linked to a bunch of people as well.
From all those posts, I got some great ideas for some new garland myself. It will probably use a bunch of my scraps, and be a mix between this one on Penny Carnival and what Jessica Levitt from Juicy Bits did for her Thanksgiving table. You need to check Jessica out. She would be able to inspire anyone!
My garland will be used on my tree, as I am aiming for a soft tree that can take some abuse from animals.
Wreath
This year, the best good friend is working at a nursery that carries Christmas trees over the holidays, and they had a bunch of cuttings from the trees. They smell amazing, and I am going to try to turn them into a wreath somehow.
But, for inside next year. I would like to make one of the wreaths that Elise Blaha made. They are amazing, and I love the fact that they use old boxes. I have so many boxes saved to ship things in for the holidays that I am afraid they are starting to become a fire hazard (not really) in my garage.
And, I was thinking that I might add some Christmas cards from last year in there too. I have a tradition that I keep all the Christmas cards and pictures I receive in the container I use for Christmas cards until the next year. Then, I look at them when I get the container out and read through them again. Then, I recycle what I can and pitch the rest. That way I don’t feel quite as bad about pitching them the year I get them.
Snowflakes
Maya, from maya*made, just posted her tutorial about the newspaper snowflakes she made. I just love them, and I would like to make a few to hang individually in front a of a window maybe. I have a few ideas for this one.
Christmas Banners
I have wanted to make a Christmas banner of sorts for a while. I guess it would really be more like bunting. I know I have seen some images out there, but I can’t think of where right now. I really like the idea of creating something like prayer flags that can be used yearly.
Quilts!
Oh, the beautiful quilts. They are everywhere, and I love them all. I think that I am going to have to resign myself to making a Christmas quilt for next year after this holiday season is over. That is the only way that I will have enough time.
I would love to make us a flannel rag quilt like I made my mom last year. This picture is horrid, but it will give you an idea of what I am talking about. That thing is three layers of flannel, so it is super warm. And, I absolutely love the flannel on the front, which this picture doesn’t show well.
It is the Moda Winter Wonderland flannel. But, I also love the It’s snowing line by Moda. I might be able to do something like I did for my friend’s little girl and combine the flannel and the quilting fabric though. That way, it can still be uber soft but also have the quilting fabric I love.
Can’t wait to get started on all this fun stuff! Outlining it all here just makes me want to take the next three weeks and fully decorate my house!

not silly at all! I have plans for next year too!
These are good plans!
