You always need a new bag for the start of school….

So, I thought that I would make myself one this year! I had some Modern Flora fabric, by Jessica Jones (and she has a new line coming out soon!), that I have been hording for a while, trying to figure out what to make, and I thought that this was a perfect way to show off all the cool fabric at once.
I just started doing some measuring and some cutting and some sewing together. And, this is what I came up with.

Obviously, it is a pretty standard bag pattern, but I really like it for all that it can do for me. I included a bunch of pockets inside.

And, I even got to play with my decorative stitches on my machine a little.
The only thing I probably should have done differently was put something in the bottom of the bag to firm it up because when it is full the bottom is visible, but it matches the straps nicely, so I think it works!

Love the cool squiggle seam! Also hope you will show your t-shirt quilt when done (as described in your comment on Ali Edwards’ blog). I’ve been saving my kids’ t-shirts since they were wee, but still have a few years to go before I embark on the t-shirt quilt (also hoping for something non-traditional, just waiting to be inspired).
