Bunches and Bunches of Crafts!
Aug 24th, 2008 by Sandy
Well, the last day or so has been pretty crafty for me, despite the fact that I should be getting ready for the upcoming semester.
Yesterday, I talked the BGF to go with me to Abilene to one of our favorite junk stores. We found loads of stuff that we loved, but we were good, and we only came home with a few things.
I love the vintage table cloths I found, and I can’t wait to do something cool with them. I also found the typeset drawer I have been looking for forever. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but the size is perfect. Not too big, and lots of larger sized openings. I am going to use it for a collage. I got the idea from Ali Edwards in her Life Artist book.
Then, on the way home, we decided to stop by the junk store in town to see if they had anything we couldn’t live without (it was on the way to our friend’s son’s football game in our defense), and I found the bingo cards. They were only $1.50, and in really good shape. I don’t know exactly what I am going to do with them, but I have some ideas.
When we got home (after quite an adventure involving two trees and a flat tire – no I didn’t run over the trees), the boy told me I got a package, and it turned out to be the glass pieces his mom was making for me.
A month or so ago, the BGF and I went to Urban Arts and Crafts in KC. It is an awesme store, and I found a bunch of stuff that needed to come home with me. But, one thing I got that I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to do with were these pendants.
I loved them, so I got them anyway, but when the boy’s mom came to visit, we talked about her fusing some glass pieces for them. Well, that’s what the package was! And, she sent me a ton of glass that will be cool for so many things. I am already envisioning necklaces with these as soldered beads. I think that I am going to ask her to send me some more in additional colors!
And, finally, the one craft I actually finished this weekend was adding a little bit of FOE to this bag. The boy’s mom made me this bag as well, but there was a little problem that the front pocket was a little too loose. I was always worried that I was going to drop what I had in there. It is a great bag to take with me shopping because little stuff can just be thrown in, and it fits my planner from school, so I can take it to class too. I have been thinking about it for a while, trying to figure out how I was going to fix it, but yesterday, I had an idea while we were out and about. Why not use the FOE (fold-over-elastic) on the pocket?
Here is the before and after. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out, but obviously, it would have worked better with a lighter fabric and if I had taken it apart first. Oh well, I am happy that I am less likely to yard sale all my stuff in the middle of class now! It does look a little like the bag has an apron on now, though!

So, I must say, after reading about all the cool things you do and sharing a lovely breakfast with you, I would feel special and honored if the next road trip you and the BGF took also had a third (who would be me, of course).
